Hey Guys,

I'm a rising MS2 and was looking into getting a First Aid book to annotate and study with the course work. And since the 2013 edition doesn't come out until Jan 2013, I will have to get one of the older editions. I plan to annotate the 2013 new information into my copy when it does get released. Now having said that, I have heard that the 2012 edition hasn't been the best edition and had many errors, even more than previous years.

So would you suggest getting the 2012 edition or get a cheaper 2011 edition?

2012. most of the errors are out already and the pictures are integrated with the book. You just got to find a pen that dont smudge

Annotating during class into FA doesn't end up being as productive as most think it's going to be. Knock yourself out, but when you start your dedicated Step 1 study time, start with a fresh 2013 FA and only annotate from your qbanks and other high yield sources. Annotating into FA during your dedicated study time helps with retention. You aren't going to benefit from a note you wrong 8 months prior into your FA.

You don't want to drown in a wealth of knowledge. It's really easy to overboard with the annotating.

Get the 2012, it's fine.

Very good advice. I think you should use 2012 during MS2 too, and annotate (if you want) or just use it corresponding with your notes through the year. Then buy the new 2013 for dedicated prep time. Good luck!

I agree with others: study it but don't annotate yet. 2012 is better because it's in color and the pictures are next to the diseases instead of having a separate bank of pictures.

Most of the mistakes are obvious and related to stupid arrows being switched in diagrams or similar issues. I think they were made by layout designers, not the writers. You will be able to pick them out after learning about the subject in class.

Thanks everyone. I was leaning towards the 2012 and I appreciate the comments. I guess i'll just buy both First Aids. I was considering getting a cheaper 2011 and then invest in 2013. But whats a few extra dollars going to do to my med school debt. 2012 it is

PM me your mailing address and I can just send you mine after I'm done with it in three weeks. I bought two copies, one for notes and one clean copy, but never used the clean copy anyway.
