Hey all,

I'm looking to get an atlas as well as the Netter's flash cards for this upcoming block.

I keep hearing that its good to have a picture atlas (Netter) as well as a photo atlas (Rohen).

I'm looking to save money and I feel that the Netter flash cards are just the condensed version of the atlas. Instead of getting both, I think I'll spend the money on the flash cards. If I ever need the book, I'll get it on reserve or borrow from a friend.

As for the picture atlas, I'm looking to get Rohen instead.

So the main question is---

Is the combo of Rohen and Netter flash card sufficient? Note that I'm definitely getting Grant's Dissector as well.

Thanks!

I'm in the same predicament, and will also be using Grants. Not sure as of yet which I'll be getting. Rohen makes sense but a few second years still said to get Netter (which is our required text).

As long as your library has netter's, I think your plan will work fine. I have the netter's atlas, but don't have Rohan's. I always take out rohans to supplement netters and I think the combo works well. I am glad I didn't spend the extra money on rohans b/c there is always a copy around. Might as well save money on books where you can.

If you want to save money, use the library copies of these books. You can purchase the dissector but either buy a used copy of Netter or use the library copy. Don't bother purchasing Rohen as it is useful to look at once or twice before the test (reserve copy in the library) but your dissections are never going to look like theirs. You won't use these books past Gross Anatomy and thus, they are not worth purchasing.

Netter's atlas is essential. Period. The flashcards are worthless because the required information you need to memorize varies on the school. Most schools give you large lists of EXACTLY what you need to know o/i/nv/aa/v -wise.

I use Netter's and Rohen's, supplementing Moore's for the clinical vignettes. Works well, giving a BASIC knowledge base, from which I can fill in more information and build the necessary spatial relationships in my head.

Thanks for all the inputs!

Based on the suggestions, I'm reconsidering the Rohen atlas.

I'm just waiting for a good deal to jump on. The second years are unloading their books now.

To save even more money, get older editions of Netters. Frank Netter died I think 20 years ago? The plates haven't changed much since the 90s.

The flashcards leave way too much out. You need the full text.

M1 anatomy isn't exactly a rapidly changing field either.

This person speaks the truth. The book has amazing pictures, but you are basically going to butcher your cadaver in comparison so it really doesn't help you study that much. Save the money.

As for Netter's atlas, if your school teaches anatomy lecture from Netter's plates, buy that. Otherwise, buy whatever they use as the source of their images.

If you want the flashcards, you get them free with a four year membership to the AMA. Just fyi.

Anatomy is such a hyped up class.. I used netters at first but I realized after a few weeks that the images in the lecture notes were good enough to get the idea/image of whats going on. Biggest thing that you need to do is know the clinical situations/conditions that are related to each anatomical region. Memorizing netters images is not very useful in the end...👍

Know clinical situations and do practice questions

Know cadaver type images for wet lab portion of exam (i just knew the drawn images of the regions and was able to figure out what was going on in the cadaver image 95% of the time.

P.S. netters flash cards are the biggest waste of time ever.👍

as the minority view, i found netter's notecards +rohen very useful. i also annotated the crap out of them -added the info my school focuses on. for anything else, i used my notes/gray's anatomy, but baby moore looked like a better investment than gray's.
