Hey guys, I am new to the boards, so let me know if I am asking this question in the wrong area. I am a MS IV, just turned IV last week and am looking to go into anesthesia. I am wondering what are my chances of getting a "good residency". I am currently at state school where the residents are worked long hours in the OR with very little interaction with attendings and teaching. I hear that many non-academic institutions work their residents the same way. I know that have a good reputation academically and considered "good" by reptutation may not necessarily mean you are "good" for residents but I having many options to strong calibre programs is something I would really desire.

Currently I have honored almost all my first two years and totally high passed my third year, I am somewhat shy in person...I have 247 on my step I and am currently doing research in optho, one of my initial interests which eventually changed, as well as previous radiation research which had an abstract and two presentations all about the same project. I am involved in our school's charity care clinic, and am taking on two teaching positions this year. I do not have any anesthesia aways planned and have some doubts if I could seriously shine considering, that I get strong evals usually only after someone spends a good amount of time with me.

Could you please tell me what are my chances of getting an academic program that would really make my residency program a great learning experience?

unfortunately you're 3 points shy on your UMSLE to qualify for a good program. sorry, may i suggest you think about podiatry school?

The last post was all in fun because this question gets beat to death. With your scores you will do fine. Try to be a little more outgoing if possible. In anesthesia you can't be too quite because you need to communicate with the other people in the OR for the safety of the patient.

You're fine.

One thing struck me about this post above all:
