Hey everyone! I’m currently a P1 with 3 years of retail experience (currently an intern). I’m looking to get an intern position at a hospital near home (home is about 90 minutes from my school) so that I can live at home and work over breaks. The hospital I applied to hasn’t gotten back to me after a month. On their website, it says that my application is “bring reviewed.” The position is still listed on their website too. Do you guys think I should call and ask to speak to the administrative pharmacist(s) regarding my application?

I applied once before to the same hospital and left a message for one of the hiring managers there, but they never got back to me. I withdrew my application and after a few months and reapplied.

I really want to get hospital experience because retail looks less and less desirable day by day. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I would call to follow up. Possibly it says "being reviewed", because they like you, but they don't have any openings for interns (or maybe they think they will have an opening, but aren't sure when, so they are leaving your application in limbo?)

If it's a small town, I would drop by and talk to the manager. Once they realize you have ties to the location, you'll likely get the job over someone who doesn't. Even if you can only work one weekend a month and through summer breaks, that's fine.
Otherwise, call and follow up and definitely find out the name of the hiring manager. You can probably snoop on linkedin.

Thanks for the replies everyone! I saw a friend of mine that worked at the 2 hospitals in my town and she managed to give me the names of both the directors of pharmacy at the hospitals. Should I call or visit in person and ask to speak to them?

I would go for the happy medium and email expressing your interest and ask to meet with him/her

I emailed them and actually managed to get an interview! I think it went well, the pharmacy operations manager gave me her card and showed me around the pharmacy as well. Do you think this is a good sign that they may be interested in me? She said that one of their current interns is graduating soon so that’ll give them 2 open intern positions. I really hope I get offered a position!

Nice! It sounds to me like you may just have this one in your bag. Well done! Send her a quick email thanking her for her time and keep showing interest. I'd even add her on linkedin at this point. She gave you her card. That's the green light right there.

I’m planning to email her today actually! I met a lot of the pharmacists and techs and they all seemed so friendly and inviting. She also explained some of the intern job duties, which to me is a good sign. I’m just anxiously waiting for an email/phone call saying they want me.

If was hiring people I'd keep a revolving supply of interns. They work hard in hopes they will get a job when they graduate.
