getting a particular residency

If anyone could offer opinions on this, I'd be glad to hear them... what kind of extracurriculars should you be doing for a particular type of residency? Like if anyone can break it down for internal medicine vs. specialities vs. surgery, etc. I know that Board scores are really the most important but how about after that? Thanks.
