Honestly, how difficult is it to get a peds residency? My friends say that peds, family and psych are the easiest residencies to get. in fact, they say that some times if people do not get the speciality they want, they "scramble" for peds.

Everything is relative. Yes, I do believe it's possible to get a position in the scramble if you don't match through the regular process in Peds. It's a matter of where you want to be and what type of program you want to be in. If you want to be in a program that has an excellent reputation and is very competitive, it's not likely you'd be able to scramble into one of those.

Why do you ask?

I just worry about not being able to get a peds residency. When the time comes, how many should I apply to?

You're premed right now? You have sooooo many things to worry about than the peds match right now. Worry about getting into medical school first. The match should be the last thing you worry about right now. If you are strong enough to get into medical school, then you are strong enough to match into any specialty. What determines that is how hard you work once in medical school. Worry about those things and the match will be much much less of a concern.

Uh, yeah, I second that!! I didn't even know what the match was in undergrad, let alone the scramble!! Everything in good time.... :scared:
