I have shadowed (observed for those of you who were wondering what shadowing was) one D.O. and plan to shadow another next week. My question is...how did you guys go about asking for a recommendation. If you only shadow a person a few times how well can they get to know you? The first D.O. I shadowed was friendly, but he was to busy for me to always tag along so I don't feel like he got to know me. Should I ask the D.O. for a recommendation the first time that I shadow them?

I was completely clear from the get go on needing a letter of rec. When I called to set up times to shadow, I said "If possible, I would like you to write an evaluation for med school". The doctor said she'd like to meet with me several times and also conduct an interview before writing the letter. All DO's had to go through the process as well so they should be understanding.
