I need some guidance on what I can do to get back on track on getting into med school. I had a lot of personal matters that stopped me from pursuing a career in medicine. Fortunately, I overcame those matters and I’m ready to do what it takes to become a physician.
I graduated in 2015 with a degree in biochemistry, so I took all my prerequisites. I will be applying as a reapplicant because I applied in 2017 with a ~3.6 cGPA and sGPA and a 517 MCAT and didn’t get any interviews. It was a mistake for me to apply. I applied late with a bad school list and with very little clinical and nonclinical volunteering and shadowing. Ever since graduating, I’ve been working in a research lab and received many publications. I understand that I need to take the MCAT again and get volunteering experience in clinical and nonclinical and shadowing, but how many hours should I aim for each? Should I sign up for some courses or pursue a post-bacc degree? What else can I be doing to prepare me for the application cycle?
