I was just wondering is gen surg much less competitive than surg specialties such as ENT, ortho, urology, etc. I saw the step I average is much lower, but I didn't know if that's just d/t a much larger sample size in gen surg. Also is it just as competitive as specialties to get into a top 25 gen surg program?

Thanks!

Don't know anything about "top" programs in surgery, but yep, the subspecialties really are more competitive. If you didn't see the Step 1 average on the Charting Outcomes report from the NRMP, go check it out. Useful reading.
