Yes, there is a correlation between wrok experience and getting into pharmacy school. Yes, it is possible to apply for early decision. Yes, you should start to apply now.

A good way to learn more about all this stuff is to do a search throughout the forums. You'll find pretty much everything you ever wanted to know, and even more of what you didn't.

Work experience, expecially health and pharmacy related, can be important. That being said, it is not enough. You need to have the GPA, pcat scores, letters of recommendation, personal statement, and extracurriculars to go along with it.

Do you mean you'll be done by next year, meaning spring 2005, or do you mean next school year, as in spring 2006? You must be done with all your pre-reqs by the summer preceding the start of your fall semester/quarter of pharmacy school. So, if you can start pharm school in Fall of '05, then apply this Fall of '04, and if you can start Fall '06, then apply next Fall '05. Early decision only applies to applicants applying directly out of high school to one of the 6-year programs. Or, early decision may also mean that you submitted your application by Sept. 1st (usually), and you will be notified early (October) of you acceptance/denial/waitlist status. The regular deadlines are usually Dec-March of each year.

yes there is a correlation between pre pharm work experience and pharmacy school acceptance.. its favored, but not necessary..

a lot of my class had pharmacy experience prior, or health or bio/bio engineering experience.

but quite a few of us had none

for myself.. i had spent the past 4 years in the hotel and tourism industry and had worked my way up from a starting front desk position at a golf resort in northern minneosta, to a sales and reservations rep with the Hyatt chain, (grand hyatt seattle-5 star hotel).. the school asked me about that in my interview and saw it as part of my dedication to a job i enjoyed... i had had no prior health or pharmacy experience prior to school

i tried to find experience.. but i pay my own tuition as many do, and couldnt volunteer necessary hours that wouldve taken away from my copious suplly of ramen :meanie:

check and see if you can volunteer... maybe see what the pharm tech certifcation is like in your state?
i was going to do it one summer over those mail in at home learning institute things, but WA wont allow that by state law.... so i couldnt double up taking community college AND uw undergrad..

see maybe if you can even work as a pharmacy assistant...

its quite nice, the thing you enjoy the most and finding the same job..is what i wanted do..but as for experience in pharmacy..trying to find a jop as pharmacy technician.nowadays...but i also want to work in a place where i can enjoy..like tourism industry (something i always wanted do)..thank you for replying

My husband works in the hotel industry and he might as well be attached at my hip. We are looking at settling places with a high traffic tourist flow (Florida, maybe even Hawaii... shhh, don't tell anyone) when I finally get out of school.

How about a pharmacy on the Las Vegas strip?

Pharmacy + Tourism 😀

Alas, the chains are way ahead of you, Anna 😉 They've got pharmacies all lit up with neon to compete with the casinos next door

...That's the CVS next door to the Monte Carlo.

What are you talking about? 😛

All the pharmacies from where I'm from have neon lights and slot machines

I've actually been to that second Walgreens 🙂 LOL!
