I decided to apply to medical school next year because I felt that my application could be a lot better. There is a professor I have been meaning to ask a letter of recommendation from because I had him for two courses, and I feel that he has gotten to know me really well as a student. Is it appropriate/okay to ask him to write a letter of recommendation now to upload through interfolio to submit for next year's cycle, or should I wait to ask later on?

I'd get it while I could. Does you school have a facility to gather and store the letters? If not, Interfolio is fine. Also, if there is an issue later with the letter not being fresh, you can either not use it or ask the professor to update it. I'd seek guidance on this aspect from your advising office, but I would definitely make the request while you are still fresh in his mind. Would your school still do a committee letter after you graduate, assuming they do them at all?

Sadly my school doesn’t do committee letters so I’ve been planning on collecting my letters throughout the year through interfolio and sending them when that tIme comes. Thanks for the advice!

Hi, I had a similar question as OP. I am nontraditional and have limited options for letter writers so I am getting my letters around August/September from my science profs. I can follow @gonnif and try to get the letters updated next year... but would it also be okay if the letters end up not getting updated with a 2021 date? Just asking if there is any requirement that all letters for the 2021 cycle have to have a 2021 date as well.. Sorry if this is a dumb question or if this has been asked before.. appreciate it 🙂
