Getting Time Off for Interviews

I'll be applying for residency in the USA the year after I graduate medical school in the UK and finish step 2. That means that I'll be applying in September of my FY1 year.

I was hoping that someone could provide me with insight into what it would be like to get time off during foundation year 1 to travel to the US for interviews.
