how are you guys doing this? flying into lebanon airport (10 min. from hanover) is very expensive. but if i drive, it'll be 8-9 hours on the road.

from the dartmouth site:

By Airplane
Lebanon (N.H.) Municipal Airport, 10 miles from the Dartmouth campus, is served by several daily flights from New York (LaGuardia), Boston (Logan) and Philadelphia International airports. Consult your travel agent for connection information. Manchester, N.H., Airport is 90 minutes south, with bus service to Hanover from Manchester.

i went to D undergrad - i would suggest flying into manchester, especially if you can get the cheap Southwest flights, then taking the bus (roughly $20 each way) which goes from the terminal directly to the college green - usually a very painless experience

that works out. thanks!

And, in case you're looking for the bus info - Vermont Transit and Dartmouth Coach are two that come up here.

I'm at Dartmouth right now, so let me know if you have other questions!

Hello,
would u suggest taking bus all the way or flying (to Manchester then bus) if you're coming from nyc?

My freshman year roommate was from nyc and she's done the trip by train, bus, and flying. She said flying was best... the bus and train supposedly take a lot longer than they should (if you were the one driving) because of stops. The bus can be pretty crowded too.

So I guess I'd go with flying if you can find cheap tickets.

Is there any kind of bus or shuttle from the Lebanon Airport to Hanover? It'd be more convenient then a taxi or rent-a-car.

Google Advance Transit, the bus system in the upper valley (Hanover, Leb, White River Junction, etc.). I know it has stops near the leb airport - although it is a TINY airport so I'm not sure the bus goes directly to it. If it doesn't list the airport as a stop, check for a stop in West Lebanon along Rt. 12A. It'll probably be at like a Shaw's or other grocery/dept store. The bus takes you right into the heart of campus, like 20 yards from the admissions office of the med school.

coming from nyc the easiest way to get to hanover is by car. the bus takes about 9 hrs and by car its about 4.5 hours. flying is probably next easiest but i dont think there is any shuttle that runs b/t west leb airport and hanover. if you fly into manchester, you have another 1.5-2 hour bus ride plus the wait time b/t when your flight gets in and when the bus leaves. another option is to fly into logan and take the dartmouth coach bus from there. the moral of the story is there is no good way to get to hanover. i was there for undergrad, it was great but getting there sucks.

Thanks so much for the advice. I think I will do just that.

Hey funshine,

Dart alumnus here. There are two good ways. Lebanon airport is not part of either. One way is to take southwest to Manchester airport and then bus. The other way is to take a regular airline to Boston Logan, then take "Dartmouth Coach" (you can check their pickup location at the airport by calling 1-800-637-0123). Roundtrip ticket by Dartmouth Coach is $60 (I think), and it drops you right off at the Hanover Inn (center of Hanover), where you can stay or can be picked up by your student host or whatever.

West Lebanon airport to Hanover you can call up "The Big Yellow Taxi" (look up number online, they are a local taxicab service and it was $15 when I used it 5 years ago.

This is totally random, but mercapto, may I ask why you're applying to so many schools? That list looks torturous.

wanna get in somewhere this year, and (hopefully) not taking any chances. It is hard, though.

Dartmouth Coach leaves Manchester airport every 2 hours. Lots of waiting time. I guess most Dartmouth students bring their car. I can't imagine having to take the bus every time I went back to school.

Dartmouth coach is $45 round trip. Goes from Logan and South Station straight to Hanover Inn. its about 2.5 hours (from south station add 15-30 mins from Logan), not bad.

Yeah, if you do go to med school here it's pretty much required you have a car, at least for when you're doing rotations. I've had a car since freshman year (I'm an undergrad) and don't know what I'd do without it...

Bonus: you get a snack and a movie on the dartmouth coach.

😱 Exciting! The eight-year old in me wants to know what kind of snack this is. Like the crappy pretzels we get on the plane? Or something better? 👍
