I plan to write the OATs in a couple of weeks. I really want to postpone the exam because I am not sure if I am ready. I still need to read Gen Chem and Biology + do a bunch of practise problems + 4 practise exams.

I would like to postpone it for 1 month from my current OAT examination date (which would be mid-Nov).

How will this affect the application process?

Everything else was submitted Mid Aug and Sept 1 (depending on the school).

I just don't want to screw this up. I need a high OAT score for them to even consider me. My GPA isnt the best.

Currently, I am in a MSc program. It's a super intense program. I have 8 exams in Oct + 2-3 assign/week. My fault. Should've studied during the summer...

Anyway, how do you think this will affect my chances, if at all?

Yea I think it is a good idea to postpone your exam date if you feel you nor prepare well. Good Luck.

I believe the key to a successful OAT is not only practice, but confidence as well. If you're freaking, i would definitely postpone it. I'm guilty of the same thing. I postponed mine several times. haha. I actually had planned to take it in the end of summer, since i would have more time to study, but because the testing center lost power due to a tropical storm, i was forced to take it last week, fitting it in between classes, lol. I think it actually helped me since the lectures i had coincidentally covered material that i saw on the OATs. hope that helps and good luck!

Definitely postpone the test if you're not really confident with the material, since you've already completed all of the other parts of the application. It would be tough to have to retake the test again, since the admissions cycle has already started. Good luck.

Well, do you have a good understanding of Bio and Gen Chem? It sounds like you have so much work and too little time. I would take a practice test now and see how you do. Pushing the test date might be the best option. Because if you have a low gpa, they might wait later to interview anyways. How low are we talking about?

3.12 🙁

I was just about the reschedule last night and within a split second the date I wanted was taken. 🙁 But I have noticed that spots open up so Im going to keep my fingers crossed!

Thank you to all those who replied!

ANOTHER QUESTION:

Does it look bad to have my application sitting at the unversities for 2 months with out my OAT score? Like will they be wondering why I bothered to apply if it wasnt even complete?

I don't think it matters to them if you delay the completion of your application...I'm sure the admissions committee for each of the schools are busy evaluating the other applicants. However, it puts you at a disadvantage if it's a rolling admissions school where first come, first served is the motto. Obviously if you apply too late in the admissions cycle then even if you achieve very high OAT scores, most of the seats will be taken.
