Hi, I'm currently a sophomore here at Texas A&M University, currently taking Organic Chemistry I, Biology, etc.

I'm worried right now that I might end up making a C in organic chemistry or biology, and now I'm afraid that I won't be able to make it into medical school. My current GPA is a 3.1.

I'm almost wondering if I should give up and try something else if I end up with a C in either class.

Can anyone give me any advice? If I end up with a C, should I just take the class again or what?

Before giving up, you need to reevaluate your academic situation. How are you studying? Do you know the material? Do you experience excessive test anxiety? Do you get enough sleep?

Ask yourself these questions, and try to identity the root of your doing poorly. You've still got a chance to raise your GPA and have a great shot at DO schools (AACOMAS takes the retake grade, while AMCAS averages the two takes).

Like the above poster said, you should think about how you're treating your academics. Also, a C in one or two classes won't kill your chances for MD even though they don't look too good. You're still a soph, so you have few enough units so that a few strong semesters will significantly raise your GPA. Do well in your future classes and an upward trend will make your later grades carry much more weight than your earlier classes. A strong MCAT score can make up for a bad GPA, especially one with an upward trend.

Still though, to do all of this, you need to reassess your academic habits and skills.
