After being dissappointed last year and not receiving acceptance, here I am a year later in a delimna that I dreamed of but now having a hard time with. I have been accepted to both UAB and GHSU, my top two choices for dental school. I'm a Georgia resident but have been offered a $100,000 scholarship if I choose to attend UAB. The estimated difference in cost is $30,000, with UAB being the greater cost. GHSU has a brand new dental school with all of the bells and whistles a school has to offer. It is closer to home and I have friends/peers who are already or will be attending in the fall. I also plan on practicing in Georgia after school. From what I've heard, UAB has a reputation of being a "prestigous dental school," and I felt that UAB was truly interested in me when I interviewed. Everyone from UAB has been very nice and I have the feeling that they truly want me. Ultimately, I want to attend the school that best prepares me for becoming a successful dentist, whether that be through clinical experience and/or the connections I make during school. The deadline to send in my deposit is QUICKLY approaching and I'm looking for any advice.

GHSU. It's cheaper, you plan on practicing in Georgia, it has a brand new school, everyone you know is there.

The only positive you named at UAB is the supposed "prestige" factor and the fact that they're really nice. Not much going here....

Go to UAB. Some of us are doing All we can to get into GHSU for financial and family reasons. If you didn't immediately say yes to your in state school you have a reason to want to be elsewhere. If you wanted to go to GHSU you would have immediately accepted.

I am also on the wait list at ghsu. Choose UAB lol.

But seriously, sounds like your gut is saying UAB and your doubting ghsu.

Go to GHSU, sounds like you will have a better support structure (family/friends) to fall back on if needed. Anything that can make life easier while in school is the way to go. Plus, as you mentioned, they got a new school...
