I was going to suggest a nice pair of protective eyewear but pretty sure they'd be more than 40 bucks. Maybe he doesn't have this problem but I fog up the cheap glasses all the time so I'll be spending the money to get either Oakley's or gargoyles to keep the fog to a minimum.

A gift certificate to his favorite restaurant. It really comes in handy on those days when you are too tired to cook and you are starving for anything except hospital food.

Give him the gift of financial education. All doctors need it. How about paperback or unabridged audio of "The Millionaire Next Door". He could listen to it in the car going to work each day and it just might save him from years of painful debt and bad spending habbits. 🙂 I wish someone had given it to me!

I couldn't agree more with this. This is a book that every young doctor should read. It'll open their eyes financially.

I think the protective eyeware is a good idea, assuming he doesn't have some already or operates at an institution where disposable eyeware is required. At a few of the hospitals I worked at during fourth year, the disposable eye shields were hoarded by the nursing and tech staff, and were very difficult to find.

My solution was to buy some raquetball specs, and I was pretty happy with them....
