Girl Interview Attire

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
It's so nice of you to give some feedback!! I think I'm worrying more about what to wear than the actual interview!
Question: were any of the girls wearing a business type dress? Or a short sleeve suit? I will be interviewing in Arizona in 2 weeks and it's going to be hot. I wonder if a short sleeve suit will look ok.

Thanks!

Short sleeve suit would definitely be fine. A few girls wore 3/4 sleeve blazers for ours and it looked great. I wore a long sleeved blazer and I was burning up all day! One girl wore a dress/cardigan combo, but I would definitely try to stick to the suit. You'll be nervous enough as it is, you don't want to be worrying about the appropriateness of your outfit on top of that! Good luck at your interview 🙂

Here's my take:

Women should definitely wear a suit. It doesn't have to be a pant suit but a suit for sure.

Becoming a dentist is big. Your interview may be one of the biggest days of your life. Hmmm....what other event might be the biggest day of your life? Perhaps your wedding?

I spent more on my suit than I did on my wedding dress. Because, hey, at least I'm going to wear that outfit more than once!

Totally! My bill is skyrocketing but no one will ever know how much I've spent

Do you guys think peep toe heels are appropriate? They're not totally open toed...you can only see a little bit of my big toe and the second one over. loll I wish admissions people could just read these threads and see how nit picky we are! 😀

I would wear a closed toe shoe. It is more professional. Also, peep toes are technically not OSHA if you are taking a tour through clinic.

Besides, I think it looks weird to show your toes when they're covered with nylons. You're wearing hose right?

Just remember: think conservative. This is a very conservative profession.

So I finally bought a business suit! I went to the outlets and got a gray pants suit and a cream colored tank for under it. It was $200 all together but its definitely worth it!!! The woman at Jones NY was very helpful and the suit looks so good (no football shoulders) haha. 🙂

Ladies, if I wear a collared shirt with my suit, collar in or out?

so is it pretty necessary to wear hose? i didn't even think about it till I came on SDN and read a few comments!

Not a female but... I would wear it.

Why? I just get the feeling that I should lol? Seems more proper.

On a side note:
What I tell women when they ask me whether or not their skirt is too short? If you have to ask then you probably shouldn't wear it.

I am wearing a pants suit and was thinking of wearing black dress socks with them, mainly to cover my foot tattoo. My shoes do cover the top of my foot. Any thoughts?

thanks for the feedback on the hose! i wore some to my interview today and i'm glad i did. most girls were actually wearing pants though, not a lot of skirts.

It's not cold in Texas yet! unfortunately 🙂 but yeah for people who are going out of state too it is probably best to have some pants.

on a side note, quite a few girls brought purses and would get their phones out and text throughout the day. i didn't bring a purse so i wouldn't be tempted!

I'm turning my phone off and wearing a watch instead so I can check the time :luck:

If you have the opportunity, I would try to find closed toe heels 🙂 I believe it looks more professional 🙂 just my opinion though.... 🙂
