So After I got into dental school I stopped coming on the forums, and realized that i should give back to the community which i got so much from. Anyhow I will be going to UMDNJ next year... and if any of you guys want tips on interviews.... DAts or anything just send me a PM and i'll try my best to answer them....
my DAT scores were...

Bio:16
OChem:23
Chem:21
Math:17
Reading:17
Pat: 20
AA:19
TS:19
I realize my scores overall werent' that hot... but thats mainly due to the fact that the stuff i studied wasn't on the exam I still remember stuff about the exam so if you guys need any help what so ever iam willing!

Aiite guys i am getting alot of the same questions on teh PM so i'll just address them here.

1. i did use Kaplan blue book and i enrolled in teh kaplan class. From my experiances i can tell you that Kaplan is NOT enough. The online course is good but again it is NOT enough. I never scored below a 23 on the practice bio and i even scored a 29 on on eof the bio exams. The bio for kaplan is much easier then teh DAT bio. I remember getting a picture of a tissue adn they asked me what type of cell tissue this was. Do nto neglect any section of the bio... becuas ethey will show up and i honestly feel bio is the most important part of all of this.

2. Gen Chem and OChem were not bad. but there were experimental stuff on Ochem i woudl liek to say dont' focus on it too much but if u want that extra question or two its prolly wise to study it(i know i defintly got the lab question wrong)... IR spectroscpy IS DEFINTLY ON THE EXAM i remember having 1 or 2 questions on it. . and for those of u who asked if there were many rxns in OCHEM.. (OF COURSE U IDIOT, thats what ochem is! RXNS). Gchem... knwo what specific gravity is and how calculations involving that works... i missed that question since no text book really covers it so u prolly have to study on your own. The kaplan Gchem is harder then the Gchem on the exam.... the Exam covers more concepts. Know the concepts well becuase you will get concept questiosn which are hard to answer if you only memorized the concepts and Truly understanding them will allow you to answer the questiosn faster and be more confident in your answer.

3. I defintly feel that having suppliments for bio is important for thsoe who got liek 24+ in bio i dunno how you did it... i must be studyign teh wrong stuff.

4. Math... KNOW STATISTICS i had questiosn involving Variance i had NO IDEA how to do.. the math on teh DAT is acutally hard now ... but it is still nto harder then the kaplan online math.

5. I will continue to answer questions but please think before asking your questions... Be clear in ur questions sometimes you guys ask very vague questiosn i dont' even know where to begin...
Thanx
-Joey

Good luck in Dental school and don't forget about wishing me some lucks (I really need'em) on DAT cause I have like 100days left. ^^

Ill

did you ever try doing achiever tests........i've been doing them and have been scoring extremely low like an average of 15 on all the tests......i don't know if i should take my exam next week. i've done all of bio from teh campbell book......

Do we need to know any names of famous people in biology (e.g. Watson and Crick for the structure of DNA) for the bio section?

123dental- I dont' remember having to know famous people but i also recall peopels studyign them and them being highlighted in teh kaplan book so ... if anythign its one question dunno if u care but i sure didn't.(Not somethign that needs to be focused on)... but know wat apoptosis is and an example of it... such as webbed feet(VERY IMPORTANT to know other examples besides WEBBED FEET(BIG HINT GUYS))

Scorpio- I dunno i never took achiever or top score... if you guys want i belive there is still al link out there for kaplan practice exams....

Please post in this forum and dont' send me PMs. since others might have the same questions.

p.s. if you feel uncomfortable posting here and rather send me a PM that is fine.. but first ask yourself if you are asking me to do a honest an dmoral thing... dont' ask me to cheat i cant' do that... but i will help you with specific topics.... liek if you say do you remember looking at slides i'll say yes you shoud lknow tissues... but dont' ask me "HEY DO YOU REMEMBER ANY QUESTIONS CAN YOU TELL ME HTE QUESTIONS? " i am not gonna tell you the questions but if you ask me if a particular area is important and i will tell you yes and no and what you shoudl know in that area....

I think you're confused. What does Apoptosis have to do with webbed feet? I thought it meant cell death.

Also, you've opened up a can of worms by asking people to PM you. Don't ask me how I know.

Ok.... when a infant has webbed feet cells are programmed to suicide so that the child no longer has webbed feet when born... AKA APOPTOSIS. THe reason i bring this up.. is peopel so often relate apoptosis to mutations ... to prevent cancer cells but that is not all many cells go through apoptosis to grow... jsut has gettign rid of webbed feet.. this is importnat guys.. becuase many of you will think like rose786 and think wtf? i thought that too... till i read the bio books

i did not say this was the exact question on the exam...but it deals with an ideal i had on the exam..... ok rose786

hi joey,
i'm applying for the 2009 cycle and i really want to attend umdnj.
i was wondering what was your major and science gpa? i'm a little worried about my science gpa , because without the +'s , it is a only 3.4.

also, how did you prepare for the QR section? were there mostly word problems?
thank you so much!

Hey my science Gpa was 3.5+ after Adsas. ummm i will say that they value Basic Sci and Sci Gpa and DAT the most. But honestly i feel that being a good conversationalist will get you in... here is a tip that will give you success at interviews. When you meet the other applicants TALK TO THEM... Talk as much as possible so you can get into teh talking mood so when you do interview u dont' have to ramp up u can jsut start the conversation.

Finallyfor teh QR you gotta study everythign that is on that ADSAS Syllabus cause you'll atleast get one question on it... for example i didnt' study stats and i had variance questions i coudlnt' answer. but overall not that many word problems as i had hoped

Hello, my name is Oleg.
I live in Brooklyn,NY and very interested in finding study partner or partners who may be also interested in studying together for the DAT! I have knowledge on some topics more than on the others, but currently study on my own from the DAT Test Prep Books. As we all know, "two heads better then one" and " the more, the marrier". I figured studying with someone else will make the time go by more interesting and fun at the same time. Please let me know if you are interested or know someone who may be interested.
My email: [email protected]
Thank you very much, in advance!
Sincerely, Oleg

Wow, thanks for all the great info.

Would you say studying g-chem & o-chem from the kaplan book and online links is sufficient?

Great thread cjouc...

Thought I would help you out a little. If there are any future applicants out there with questions specifically about Texas schools or the TMDSAS application, etc. let me know. It's been a while since I took the DAT, but the whole application and interview process is still pretty fresh so anyone with questions just let me know. Hope this helps.

Hey guys....

for Ochem... the kaplan stuff is defintly not enough. Look at the Adsas syllabus for the DAt and whatever kaplan does not cover use a Ochem textbook for those subjects. Its important to cover these areas as you will get questiosn from these parts... I DID

I really want to attend UMDNJ and I took the same test that you took but I did not do well on it so I am retaking it this April. Can you give me some suggestions as to how to do well on Biology section because I got a 15 on Bio and 15 on Pat? Also, I don't understand the Top Front End view at all. Is there someone who can help me with that? I have used the TopScore Pro, Kaplan blue book, KSF review also. What should we talk about and what questions are asked in your interview? I would really appreciate it if someone could reply to me via email [email protected]
