Global denta brigades??? Would it helo my application?

Hi all,

I was curious to know if going to Nicaragua with the dental brigades look good for my application? This is a program in my school for volunteering in poor countries as a pre dent student.

I already have 90 hours but in a less recognized foundation in ecuador.

Would that be enough for my application for international volunteering? Or should i pay 1800 bucks to volunteer in Nicaragua with the brigades?

Hi Kingo,

I think it would definitely help your application! However, don't just do it as a way to get into dental school, do it because you WANT to do it. As long as you are passionate about it and you can possibly get a strong rec letter out of it, the volunteering will make you definitely stand out!

$1800? Not sure I would do that. There are plenty of mission trips right here in the US. The price tag for them must be less. With that said, there are people in need everywhere. I would not jump on a plane unless you were truly interested in the cause. Don’t do any of these activities just for the recommendation. It’s not worth it, and your lack of dedication may be transparent.
