1) Which is more stable, the open chain or the ring, and why? I think its the ring, someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

2) I know the alpha and beta anomers interconvert with each other. Do the open chain and ring form interconvert as well?

The ring form is generally considerably more sable, probably due to the lack of the aldehyde.

You couldn't interconvert between alpha and beta if you didn't interconvert between linear and cyclized. Think of the mechanism
