Oh man, this could be that first invite! Or maybe Dartmouth said to hell with interviews, this guy rules, we'll just let him in! Hey, it'd even be awesome if I was finally complete at one of the schools that've had all my materials for 3 weeks but have yet to acknowledge it.

*click*

Wait, nope, another stupid forward from a relative who really needs to start using Snopes. Well, at least I can look this up for him until Netflix sends out my next wave of movies and this happens all over again...

I just saw "Gmail - Inbox (3)" and thought, "urgh, more stupid reported posts from SDN....🙄"

But no, it was 3 secondaries!😀 Ah, the wonders of verification.:meanie:

that's why I have a separate mailbox only for med school apps.

I seem to create a new gmail account for every need. homework, traveling abroad, spam, and application process so far. Damn you gmail!

Maybe you should create a gmail account for all the people you're helping recover from their addiction to gmail! You could start a support/recovery group...and then put that down as an EC to be used in your apps that you've created a gmail account for 😉😛

MedAdmit - Secondary Application Invite from UC Irvine, School of Medicine - Aug 7
MedAdmit - Rejection Notification from UC Irvine, School of Medicine - Aug 7

Yeah, it's true. Didn't get off the waitlist and I'm reapplying.

MossPoh-- Perhaps you need the different accounts, but I had the same problem and ultimately consolidated them all by using filters and auto-archive. I set up labels for all of the different "inboxes" I wanted to have, and then just set up a filter for each of them + auto-archive so they would be automatically filtered into that label. It's not a perfect system, as occasionally the filters misplace an email or two, but it's easier than logging-out and logging-in to various accounts countless times a day. Just a thought!

Haha, you created an account and specifically signed up for spam with it? Usually spam is stuff that you get unknowingly.

Unless, of course, you mean you are on a mailing list for the canned ham/chicken gizzards/cow ears company.

Man... every morning I open up Mozilla it goes to my Gmail account and I minimize it before I can see that I get mail. And then hope for the best but its always a disappointment. I check my Gmail account multiple times a day, but it sucks now, because the past week I haven't gotten anything from med schools.

Gmail notifier ftw (or l, i suppose)...

so i had this thread open, and i minimized SDN. Since i had 9 internet explorer windows open they just formed one thing on the bar on the bottom of the screen, and when i clicked it to see what was open, i saw the title Gmail Inbox(1) and got all excited that i had an email and it could be med school related. I clicked on it, and realized that it was just the name of this SDN thread and was severely disappointed. i guess that's what i get for being dumb and apparently having no short term memory.

Ahahaah, yeah, I feel funny whenever I open this thread.

No, it is set up for the spam stuff. Every website that involves email sign ups, registration, etc. I use that one. If you read the fineprint for some of those sites, they sell your email to the highest bidder. I almost never get spam in my other accounts. *knocks on wood*

I call it my spam email..but it is my registration one for stuff I dont' care about much as well. You know, like myspace, message boards, porn sites. etc

punkindrublic, you are a witty bastard. I can totally relate to the suspense Gmail delivers in between those parentheses.

I seriously think checking email is an addiction. It's just like classic conditioning. You check it, and every now and then it gives you positive feedback, so you keep doing it.

Gotcha. I have one of those too, I call it my "trolling-for-hot-asian-chicks-on-myspace," e-mail.

Hmm... just a thought, but doesn't it look a tad bit more professional when you inquire with your UG email address? I'm just asking, don't yell.

Some people aren't in school anymore... I could have certainly used my USC email but I'd prefer my work email address be used for work.

Not everyone is still in undergrad.

I think [email protected] (or whatever domain you use, as long as it isn't @freepr0n.com) would look just as "professional".

jochi, let me be the first to welcome you to hell. oh! and congratulations!

I'm already done with 1.5 of them. I'm gonna see if Cornell is rolling, if it's not, I'll leave it for later because of $$$ (I'll still finish it, just won't pay the fee).

I don't log into must of them. I have my 3 most active accounts all go to mail and filter relevant emails out for organizations, research, etc. from there. The homework one I have set up with a program I use. It is essentially like ftping and just dumping files off on a server. I just drag and drop the files on there for a backup once in a while. The others would result in my email taking about 20 minutes to load. We're not talking about one or two emails. We're talking 50 to 60 a day for some of the things. I have my legit full named gmail account, penn state email and florida state emails constantly cycling.

I realistically check 1 gmail on a regular basis...the others are just soaking up crap, storing papers, or pretty much forgotten. 😛

Also, I've already considered creating a special email for applications. 😉 I decided to go with the one with my full name. I technically have an email from University of North Florida too...when they accepted me for postbacc they gave me an email before I even sent money in....still haven't cancelled it. My favorite is the hotmail account from 5th grade I think.

GMail is probably a better email system than 99.99% of UG email systems. Unless the UG is using GMail as well

I only got 3 more this morning, one of which was a duplicate from Cornell, for whatever reason, so technically, 2. I'm not too keen on receiving more now, given that I don't have $$$ left, so I probably won't be able to send them out till next week.

So true. I'd say my UG e-mail system (OCS) would be down for about 20 hours a week, and that's the hours I was awake - probably just as many more at nighttime. They'd also filter anything with a URL in it, so I wouldn't even be able to receive most secondaries if I were using it.
