I'm really starting to get worried about Gmail. I keep hearing more and more complaints. Im not sure how true they are...but I hear people complaining about viruses sending out emails, using the users email, to all their contacts with inappropriate material, people hacking/forwarding emails. Im not really sure what to do. I've always had a school account, so I never had to worry about the security of my email. I starting pharmacy school in september, so I'll get an email address there that I can use. Till then I dont know what to do. I have no idea where to begin to find a reliable email address.

I've had a Hotmail and Yahoo account for 10 years now with no problems...

I'm probably just being paranoid and working myself up. Its nice to come to SDN to get some feedback cause I know alot of people on here have gmail.I think my concerns are ligiemate..right? I'm just scared that Ill get a virus that sends "virus" emails to my professor contacts or some hacker getting my info. I have norton internery security, but I dont know if its protection extends to gmail. I'll just stick with gmail, pray to the lord every night, and sweat it out till aug when i get my pharmacy email.

p.s yes I know Im a worrier...my worst trait:scared:

I've never heard of that. Also, I use gmail now because our pharmacy email has to be redirected to another email address for us to be able to send/receive messages using that email address.

you only have to worry about viruses if you're too stupid to heed the basic warnings of online e-mail.

Even the most secure corporate system has a weak link: the user.

I've had gmail since 2004 and I LOVE it.
I've never had any of the problems that you're describing.
My favorite thing about gmail is that I can keep all of my emails and categorize them, making it easy to look for an obscure email if necessary.
