I applied to 10 schools knowing I could only afford to interview at about 5. Maryland was in the top 5 but has recently began to slip. OK... more like FALL out of my radar. I got a letter saying I would not be considered for admissions based of the fact I didnt have my physics pre-reqs finished... so I called them up and said to look at my transcripts again... and dear heavens physics was on there.

Similar experiences have caused my trust in Maryland to fly out the window. I just had to get that out!

thumbs down to maryland 👎

That has happened with UNC. I have there requirements in Ochem which was done in 1 semester accelerated course but said it is has to be done in 2 semesters so, being put back in the "being reviewed file" I wish schools were more organized. IF you haven't finished a prereq they should let you finish it. SO I think it is a nice was of saying they don't want me🙂

So you will begin to reject interviews? I'm trying to convince myself to limit my number of interviews too (assuming I get any more, that is), but I don't want to be the chump who turns down invites, and then gets in nowhere. It would also be a shame to miss out on a school or city that I might have liked, had I visited it. Every step of the application process is expensive and stressful, even when it's going well.

Sounds rather foolish to hinge your entire analysis of a school on something so silly, if you ask me. If they only received 10 applications and didn't have an incoming class to worry about, among other things, then I'd understand what you're saying.

I think it would be a mistake to associate administrative difficulties with defects in a school's dental program. Most of the time the person in charge of dental applications and mailings at a dental school is just one person who may be in college themselves. I didn't have the easiest time with my application at UCLA but I tried not to let it impact my view of the school. I'm glad I didn't because I'm pleased I wound up here.

Good advice... Original Post was more out of frustration.

i don't think that's foolish at all...so what if they have thousands of applications? other schools are in the same boat...and i don't see other schools making similar mistakes...

as a matter of fact, maryland sent me a letter saying i have not completed my biochemistry requirement AND my 6 credits of english requirements. SORRY, but i have completed THREE of the 6 credits already. That only leaves me with 3 more credits of english. i don't see other schools sending me a letter, threatening to cease consideration of my application until i submit something in writing showing them how i intend on completing my other 3 credits of english.

to me, maryland is just doing a lot of unnecessary work (i.e., sending everyone letters telling them they haven't completed the requirements) and because this is so unnecessary, and they are so uncareful (read: stupid) in the way which they have done it, it's causing a lot of frustration.

i just called them today to request a refund because i was getting so frustrated with them. i don't think i would enjoy being there if it has left me with such a bad first impression...and i'm sure there are other schools equally desireable that i won't be at a disadvantage even if i was wrong to assume all this about them based merely on their 'administration'
