I'm sorry about not being so learned about the whole MD/DO war. I'm only trying to learn more about the whole thing and not choosing sides. Why does this rift in medicine exist where and MD and a DO are essentially the same thing but with fundamentally different philosophies about how to treat a patient. Does med school not make students crtical thinkers enough so that they can consider all different approaches?

I think that you are not getting a lot of replies because this topic can turn ugly #1, #2 It is easily found with a search.

I don't think that is NEARLY as big of a rift in the real world as is portrayed here. What I mean is, once you begin practicing as a physician you will be known as a doctor, not MD/DO, in most cases. My dad is an MD and doesn't look down on DO's and has never come across any problems or any other doctors looking down on DO's. Like many people have said before, the MD/DO fued is usually just from pre-meds.

Really? That's great. I asked the difference between the two on the MD site and everyone began arguing. I guess I got a bad impression on the whole issue. Now gotta figure out which one I want to be.

I read your thread in the pre-allo forum and saw no arguing at all, just a ton of people pointing you to the *FAQ Please Read First FAQ Please Read First FAQ* thread just like here. This topic has been discussed so many times and in so many variations we could probably publish it all, wad it up, and use it to anchor a ship. If you have a specific question I am sure many people here would be glad to help you out with opinions but for fact you may need to do some reading, after-all this is only a life altering decision you plan to make. Good luck with it.
