I saw a few post like this in the pre pharmacy, and other areas of work...
Do they have separate boards in different states? and what is the difference of the boards? Why are there different ones for different states? Isnt Vet medicine pretty much universal? I really dont know, so please forgive me if i sound really dumb right now..

And for those people who did go to school once place only to work in another, how did you do it? I guess for example, my goal is to go to a school with exotic program, so that would be out of my state, and i dont know if by the time i could pass the boards where there is potential work in a zoo? There might be a position close to my home town zoo, or in Cali?! but If i take the boards for Cali, and dont get teh job... i dont understand how it works... 🙁

First of all, calm down.

The 'boards' exam is the NAVLE. All states require it (and Canada) before you can become licensed in any given state. However, each state has different requirements for veterinary licnesure; some have an extra exam that you have to take (for example, California) that generally has to do with the legislature in that particular state. It doesn't matter where you go to school, as long as it is AVMA accredited. And you can be licensed to practice in multiple states.

Second of all, all this stuff will come up when you get to vet school. If you're truly worried (which you do NOT have to be, trust me; you have 3 years after you get to school before you worry about this), here's the link to the FAQ for the NAVLE: https://www.nbvme.org/navle-general-information/faqs/

Third of all: seriously. Calm. Stressing over this right now is not worth it.

I agree with Lei, this isn't something you need to stress about. During 4th year you will apply for the state you initially wanted to be licensed in upon graduation. And you will have all your documents(including NAVLE scores) sent to them. After that if you plan to work elsewhere you just find the state board and fill out the application for that state. You will have to send copies of all your supporting documents, but its generally a fairly straight forward process.
