Golden Key International Honour Society

I just got an invitation to join an honour society in the mail yesterday and was wondering whether or not this is prestigious or not, or holds a 'wow' factor with anyone of you. Is this honour society like phi beta phi or phi kappa phi. On the letter it says membership is done via invitation only and is given only to the top fifteen percent of your respective program. I think this is the only honour society at SFU, my university.. not sure

Should I join.. The real kicker is that you pay NINETY CDN dollars (Cdns should pay less since our dollar is higher atm jk jk)

Since this society has chapters in USA too, wondering if there are any other golden key honour society folk here as well to tell me if it is worth it or not. Or just anyone in particular, do you think this will give me a second look when i apply to either DPM or DO

Im actually kind of surprised that I got one though since this semester I didnt do as hot as I did before (minor setback lol) but I guess my yearly average is what they counted

I receive these "honors" on a regular basis. Initially, I thought I was amazing and it was an ego boost. Then I realized I was receiving too many to be valid, and each one asked for some fee for a plaque, certificate, membership directory, etc.

There are dozens of versions of "who's who". There are "top 100" podiatrists in the USA, etc. I've been asked to join them all because I'm so great and special, and my partners get the same invites. And they ALWAYS ask for money.

So, although I'd like to tell you that these are true honors, I'm sorry to report that the majority are a way to stroke your ego, while they collect your money.

True awards and honors to NOT ask for money. I've been lucky enough in my career to obtain a few honors along the way, and I cherish those plaques and awards and they didn't cost me one cent, and they all mean quite a bit to me.

Save your money.

i have no recent ecs other than working and volunteering at comm centres a year ago so i thought i could vol through the chapter but now ill probably do so via free to join clubs savee myself nine lunches for school hehe

but Id probably not put it on my resume or application if I didnt join cause they would ask me who what where when how and why about the honour society and I would only be able to describe diddly squat lol
