Currently, I'm using audio + transcript + FA only with RR only to clarify points. Has anyone tried this with success or does RR seem to be the way to go for Path? Ideally I could do both, but audio just seems to go much faster and the info sticks better..but I've definitely noticed missing info (i.e., in the book and not the audio or FA), I'm just not sure how important the absent facts are.

Thoughts?

There's a reason the audio goes a lot faster than RR - it's not nearly as comprehensive. RR should really be your foundation if you're aiming for a high score, but if you're struggling to get above low 200's you might want to triage by sticking to FA + audio only.

Keep in mind that RR has a fair number of errors, at least the edition I used last year did. I knew I started to understand the material on my 3rd pass through RR because that's when I really started to spot those errors.

I used the audio but listened to it with RR Path in front of me and annotated the text. It works pretty well. The second edition synchs up nicely and you have photos to reference. It was a good way to consolidate the audio material.

Goljan is recording new audio to be published soon. He is recording it next week, no idea when it'll hit shelves though.

you trolling, bro?

No, he is doing the board review for the 2nd years next week at our school; I am a work-study student in the IT dept and he consulted us to set up the lecture hall to record his mic. He made the comment it needs to go off without a hitch for his next update.

this is a shame, I would have paid good money for his lecture audio set if this happened earlier.

I'm sure this won't be out in time for those of us taking Step in the next month or so, but if he does something like that for Step 2 before I get there, I'll buy that in a heartbeat.

is your review through your school or some other company like kaplan?

I mentioned before how I would've gladly paid him for those audio files. I have his path and biochem book. Kind of saddens me that it will probably be released long after me, but oh well. Maybe I will get them just to pay for the intellectual property in some way. 😛

Someone said that there may have been contract stuff with the review programs involved before as well.

I wonder if he will bundle the audio with the next revision of RR or sell as a separate addition.

Read the book and listen to the audio too. Do both multiple times. You will score high. :luck:

Goljan is Step 1 King.

Any pointers on how thoroughly the book should be read? It's pretty dense and I'm a sloow reader

I would read the chapter corresponding to my schools path class. After one overview read, I would listen to the corresponding Goljan Audio with the book open and highlight, circle, underline things. Then I would read the chapter again. I'd also listen to the same audio lecture while working out/driving/ect. Then I would read the chapter 1-2x again before my schools path exam.

I went through the whole book that way. I also spent my spring break reading through most of it a second time. And read through most of it again during boards study period.

A lot of work, but it payed off. By the time I took the real deal, Goljan was whispering the right answers to me.

Holy crap! Any idea if it'll be available this summer? I didn't know he sold these audio tapes. I was under the impression that the reason his old ones were illegal to obtain is because they were never for sale and illegally obtained. This isn't true?

I finally figured this out. It was incredible dense for me as well. But, instead of trying to read it without truly understanding the physiology, I decided for this block to wait until I fully understood the physiology of the system and had a good foundation in the pathology before I cracked open the book. This way, most of it was review and I filled in the gaps to really make sense of it. It's worked pretty well for me using this method, but I'm just a first year.

So my question is, will he actually selling this batch of audio tapes so that we can legally buy them? Please someone say yes! I'd pay a lot for those tapes.

Ok, so I want to clarify.. I've used Goljan on/off along with courses my first 2 years and now I'm actually getting down and dirty with studying for the exam in June. So I'm trying to figure out the most efficient way to study for Path -- I think the most thorough would be to do audio and read the book and memorize each word, but this would take a decade.. has anyone tried just blue notes and felt comfortable?

Are the current one's illegal? Yes. They were recordings made from lecture by student(s) at our school and distributed. All students are required to sign a recording contract stating that we will NOT record his lectures under penalty of law and explusion from school, but in exchange he has a secure online place for us to access them.

As to the future, he made the specific comment they are for professional publishing. Other than that, I have no clue. Professional publishing in my mind signals something like audio osmosis is for the MCAT Examkrackers but he gave no greater detail.

I bet they'll be available in the fall, just in time for those of us starting second-year classes.
