Hi,

I've just finished high school and starting at the beginning of the next school year I will be working as support staff at a special needs elementary school for children suffering from a range of severe psychiatric disturbances (in general children with disorganized families or who have undergone trauma, but also some children who are high-functioning psychotics, and some with selective mutism).

The work will involve helping the children learn the material in their classes and cope with the demands of school, and responding to frequent episodes of behavioral and emotional instability.

Do you have any recommendations for books (or textbooks, or handbooks) on these topics? I don't know what sub-field of mental health I should be searching for books like these. Any books on work with children who have suffered trauma, children with high functioning psychotic disorders, or managing the sort of episodes above, etc, would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
