Good books?

I'm looking for some books to start to get my feet wet whilst in pre med. It doesn't matter if they're over my head; it'll be better motivation to study hard.

Well, if you are referring to medical books, forget it.

You will dedicate THOUSANDs of hours in your life to studying that stuff.

You would be better served enjoying life, reading literature, getting drunk, whatever...

Yeah, I'd like medical books. I'd like to get a jump on things even if it's just skimming. I ordered the Handbook of Pharmacology and Physiology in Anesthetic Practice; hopefully that's a decent one.

Your jump on things offers you no advantage. We all have felt the same way as you in the past. And now that we are here, we are trying to offer you perspective. My opinion, enjoy other things now.

Because you won't be able to get a jump on things as an undergrad! None of the books will make much sense and they will be so boring! You will probably forget everything by the time you get to med school anyways, because you won't use any of the information in a practical manner. You will learn all this stuff in med school, college is time to broaden the horizons. Or just party without abandon because that's awesome and life is too short to start studying anesthesia i college.

Besides... you may very well (as most do) change your ideas about what medical field you want to go into by the time you're ready to apply for residency positions...

I think the best advice would be to get a jump on the MCAT. Buy a Kaplan review book and start going to town. For better or worse your score on that one test will likely dictate whether or not you go to med school and where.

He's right. If you have to get a jump on something, do some MCAT prep. You won even be able to understand 5 percent of that pharm book for anesthesia without having taken some serious physiology. Your enthusiasm is appreciated, but take advantage of having time in undergrad to "have a life"........
