is this good enough for berkley? what about new york? anyone know cost of living in new york? does berkley look favorably on having research experiences? what about a demanding major?

They just dont look at the OAT score
They also look at ur gpa as well as ur state of residency.
of course they also look at the experience

Hi,

The average OAT AA score for Berkeley is usually around 350, so your gf's score looks good. Like ppa said, they also look at many other factors. Their gpa requirement is higher than the other schools, pre-req average is around 3.55. Of course those are only averages...you can have great experience and do very well at your interview, still be below average and get in.

SUNY's average OAT is around 340 I think. And their overall average gpa is 3.1.
The standard of living at both locations is pretty high in general. But at least you get in state status after one year.

I believe research experience will only play a factor if your gf is planning to pursue a PhD. Otherwise, it probably won't play a huge factor unless she did something vision related or her work was published.

If she has an extremely high GPA from a demanding major, that will be good. I don't think that if she has a low GPA from a demanding major that it would be compared to a higher GPA from a less demanding major. So, I think the demanding major works mainly in her favor if she's doing really well in it (IMHO). However, I could be wrong.

My classmate applied to Berkeley while she was pursuing a material science engineering degree and had a GPA of 3.9. She was preaccepted into Berkeley. My other friend was a biology major with about the same GPA (~3.8) and the same OAT scores as my classmate (370-400s) but was not preaccpeted, came to interview day with me, and he was ultimately rejected. So, there are a lot of factors that come into play My classmate also did research as an undergraduate and was published but it was not vision related. However, since her work was published, she does not have to complete an OD thesis.
