I'm planning to apply to Rutgers in New Brunswick, NJ.

My stats so far.

GPA between 3.5 and 3.4 unweighted
1720 SAT 1200 Math and Critical Reading
Top 30% of class
4 years football
3 years TSA
Silver and bronze TSA achievement award
Teen CERT member (Community Emergency Response Team)
70+ volunteer hours
Going to volunteer at a hospital in the summer

I'm wondering if I should take the SAT and/or the ACT in the fall. Also what is the best time to apply to college? And lastly, is Rutgers New Jersey's best college after Princeton?

Also, I am wondering about scholarships. I been looking around the websites for them and I am really confused what to do.

yes you have a chance for attending a university, people worse than you do too, it's not hard.

1.) Not that your scores are bad, but if you took it again do you think you could do better? and how many times have you taken it already?

and about the ACT, I took that several times, as well as the SAT and my scores converted almost exactly, so waste of time...for me at least.

2.) As soon as you can.

3.) No clue.

4.) I'm pretty sure most schools will automatically consider you for scholarships and they mail it either with your acceptance letter or later on with a financial aid package.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that FAFSA, but I'm relatively certain that just affects need based awards so definitely do that as well.

I just checked because I forgot my number, I went up over 120 points after retaking the SAT, so I'd recommend going for it, as long as you don't exceed 3 takes.

I'm assuming you're a junior in high school? College application deadlines tend to be in January the year of matriculation, so you would ideally be applying next fall. I don't know much about Rutgers since I'm not from NJ, but you will certainly be accepted to college somewhere.

You will not necessarily be considered for scholarships or financial aid automatically. You will need to fill out the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) after January 1st of next year and send in tax return documents to be considered for need-based aid at most schools. Most private schools also require you to fill out the CSS/Profile through the College Board. Many merit-based scholarships require applications and additional essays, though not all. Check the Financial Aid website of every school you apply to, because a lot of them have different requirements.

I took the SAT twice and improved my score by 80 points (this was back in the dark ages when the SAT was out of 1600). Only took the ACT because my state required it. But I did loads better on the ACT, so if you can afford to take it, I would recommend it. Sometimes people are better at one or the other, and you never know until you try.

Absolutely, you have a chance. The question is, where?

If I were you, I'd stick to a state school. That way you could build up your undergrad GPA and have more time for ECs, to make you seem more well-rounded for your MD/DO apps. Plus, you'd have more time to enjoy yourself before med school steals your soul. 🙂

But that's just my opinion!

At the risk of sounding super obvious...
make sure to apply to more than one school.

I wish my college app looked like this...

I had a 2.7 overall, 3.0 weighted 1550 SAT, 23 ACT
n ECS and am going to a state CC.....of course you can..🙂
