I am ready to re-apply, however i am not retaking the dat again until the end of June.

1) Would it be better for me to submit my app without mentioning that i plan to retake the dat, then update my app with my new scores after ive taken the
test ? 18/19/21

2) If i retake the end of june or first week of july is that too late to expect interview invites from the first round?

Thanks for considering my questions ahead of time. 🙂

what is the advantage of not mentioning that your going to retake? I just don't see the advantage.

Matter of fact, apply early june and do tell that your going to have a new DAT score by end of the month. As soon as your done with your retake (assuming your application has been sent out on the first round) call up each of your schools directly and tell them your new scores, they'll mark it down on your application until your official DAT scores of the retake arrive to them

i just dont want to be put in a pile of apps marked not complete!

My advisor (who is very competent, helped me along the way) said that if I do a retake after I submit, to NOT mention it. She said that schools will effectively put your application aside and wait for your new scores. She told me to just submit my app, take the DAT (quietly), and then to send my new scores. Then the schools will just have new scores added to my file.

And she said if asked, I could just say that I decided after I submitted AADSAS to retake DAT.

I didn't end up having to do this, but that was her advice. And she never steered me wrong in 3 years.

Hey Snaggletoof~ Good luck with your DAT!! I am planning to retake my DAT also, and I will most likely indicate on my app that I will be retaking the DAT just so the school knows in case they decided to me put me in the 'non-qualified' pile instead of the 'non-complete' pile. I am not sure if there's a difference, but hope that helps a little.

From what I've heard (from around SDN and past re-applicants), its better to be in the "not-complete" pile than the "bad scores" pile. Because they are more likely to re-visit your file again once they have new scores whereas they might put you in the reject or second round group automatically with the low score. You should be fine with the first week of july date, so lets say the official scores take a month to get to the schools, your file would still be complete by end of july. That is not late. You can still call each school and ask if you can fax in your unofficial scores (with the seal from the testing centers) right after you take the DAT until the official scores reach the school. Most schools let you do that.

By the way, I'm right there with you. I'm actually not re-taking the DAT until end of july (just finished grad school and going out of the country until end of june, so i'm gonna come back and need at least month to study). So i'm hoping that won't be tooooo late, just early late (haha if that makes any sense). Good luck!!!

thanks terp. thats the info i was looking for. i hope to take the test by then, i have to register. once i do that i will be in the pressure cooker. i hope we both are early late!!!
