I am going to be a sophmore this year, and am almost done with the pre-reqs needed for the caribbean schools. I am thinking about applying to the schools after I take my MCAT. (I will not have a bachelors degree.) I also have EC's such as volunteering, and shadowing. Is it a wise decision to do that? Do you guys know anyone that has gotten in by finishing only the pre-reqs?

Bad idea for so many reasons.

The dedent schools won't accept you anyway, so there is no point in trying.

What will you gain by this?

well the thing is, due to my parents being brought up in the eastern culture, they think i should get married ASAP. but i want to study, so the compromise would be to be married after my bachelors. i am really passionate about being a doctor, but i might not be able to do so if i get married so this is my other option. to apply to schools after i meet the minimum requirement, without getting a bachelors degree. confusing, i know. sorry =\

I can sympathize with the pressure you are feeling from family but you are your own person and must make those decisions for yourself or you will resent your parents for pushing you into marriage.

That is part of being a second-generation immigrant that retains your parent’s customs while adapting to your new home.

No credible medical school will accept you into their medical program with less than 90 credit hours from your university. That means you need to complete at least 2 more years before you qualify to apply. That is an absolute prerequisite.

On the other hand, if you are in love with your future wife, then that is a different story.

Most med schools require you to have a bachelor's degree before you matriculate. The only way you could get into med school by only doing the pre-reqs would be if your college had a program with one of the med schools which allowed you to complete 3 years of undergrad, and provided you attained a certain overall and science GPA and a certain MCAT score, would allow you to start med school after 3 years. And I don't know of any undergrad colleges that have this sort of program with the Caribbean schools, although my undergrad had a program like this with Tulane.
