I am a 3rd year who is really considering Cardiology seriously now. Thus, I obviously need to get into a great IM program to help me get a good cardiology fellowship. I am starting to plan away rotations to do during June and July. I would love to do my IM residency in the mid west and knowing how competitive coast programs can be, perhaps thats a plus. I already took step 1 and got around average, nothing spectacular but above 200. Do you guys know of good IM programs to go to for away rotations and possibly apply for residency at?

I know WashU and programs like Mich and texas SW are really good but how realistic are they for an average med student?

you could probably increase your chances at mich by doing a rotation there in cards. Apparently there is a new cards center opening there sometime during 2007 and it is supposed to put them in the top 5 for IM cards, CT surg and vascular. I don't know this for sure, but it may not be bad to check out.

WashU has a legendary IM program. Once again, doing an audition rotation there would help (as long as you work your a** off).
