Leave all "Good Tunes for Night Shifts" suggestions here. I got a big stretch of night shifts coming up, and I'm getting tired of my usual tracks.

Note: Suggestions should somehow be relevant to the nuances of night shifts, somehow. Not just "Sabbath is great, LOLZ."

Well since it's relavent to the night shift how about "I like the night life". Or if your single coverage at night "All by myself". A nice suggestion when it seems to be raining sick people: "Don't fear the reaper" :naughty:

I have a pretty eclectic taste so my playlist usually change with whatever mood im in. Recently, depending on the night, I play Sinatra, Tony Bennet, Def Lepard, Lady Gaga, Springsteen. I also have a really nice electronica and disco stations on my Iheartradio.

Good answer. I guess "song-specific" answers are ideal.

I've been listening to a good bit of Pink Floyd, as their eleventeen minute songs tend to all blend into one another, and I'm not sure if its 2:30 or 4:15 when I listen; its all just "there until its time to go home. Its just there. fjdiesla;asdklfj". It gives it a "stay the course" feeling.

Oddly enough, I see the same aesthetic from a number of other sources. Might touch upon them if I get stoked on it later on.

Night, y'all.

LCD Soundsystem has something of the Floyd vibe, in that they have extended songs with a lot of textural variation. But, unlike most Floyd, they have driving beats that can help keep you going when you're dragging at 4am.

Here's a good example.

Daniel Bettingfield's one hit wonder "gotta get thru this"

Donna Summer or Tina Turner- whichever you prefer, "she works hard for her money"

Black eyed peas "meet me half way" for a difficult patient you just want to get out of the ED.

Sia"breathe me"...at the end of a ridiculously busy shift and you just want someone to help you wrap everything up so you can check out and go home. A remix might be more upbeat😉

O.A.R. -- Nightshift

Whodini -- The Freaks Come Out at Night

G 'n R -- Welcome to The Jungle

"I Gotta Feeling" (Black Eyed Peas) - for when you have to tell yourself it will be a good night

"Last Friday Night" (Katy Perry) - for last shift in a string

"Drunk" (Ed Sheeran) - obvious reason

Do most of the departments you work in allow music? Pretty much everywhere I have ever seen I have never heard music. Is it a night shift thing? Maybe its just been my limited experience but the OR is basically the only place I consistently hear attendings playing tunes.

I only work in one shop. Play whatever I want at a reasonable volume. Also get to watch NHL games on my laptop in the background. Granted, we're too busy most time for me to pay attention to the game and actually "watch" it actively, but its nice to have the audio so I can follow the score.

If you do have a slow night and are feeling introspective, then:

Every Sh*tty Thing by Murder City Devils

If have a busy night and consider daytime sleeping a party, then something by KISS. I think you can guess the song.

Paper Planes, M.I.A.
Deuces, Chris Brown
I Shot Ya, LL Cool J
Run This Town, Jay-Z f. Rihanna
Ridin' Dirty, Chamillionaire (many night shift pts are/were "ridin' dirty...)

Hands, Jewel (touchy feely...)

special mention:
"You", Lloyd and "Shawty", Plies f. T-Pain (ok, i just like to dance to these and the nurses/secretaries tend to join in so it's fun)

That is awesome, I'd love to be able to watch some Red Wings games in the background while working. Part of me would be nervous that some hoodlum would snatch my laptop and run out though.

It is pretty great. We're in "high-volume season" down here in Florida now (READ: Snowbird season), so I really don't get to "watch" much of the game.

The shop is pretty dead in summertime, so I can't wait to turn on a baseball game and put my feet up for 20 minutes at a time.

Also, my average patient age is like, 60 - so nobody is going to hustle off with my laptop. (.... shuffle off ? ... walker-off ? .... you get the idea).

My favorite to play the last hour of my shift is "sloop John B" by the beach boys.

I feel so broke up, I wanna go home!!!!

😀

Tell the chest pain with tombstones to suck it up and take an aspirin. Tell the septic neutropenic fever with SBP of 72 and HR of 160 to have a glass of water. They'll probably live for another 15 minutes without you. You'll be much more productive after this.

"Rehab" - Amy Winehouse
