Hi, I currently am in my researching process and trying to figure out what schools I would like to apply to. I am looking for a school that has reasonable tuition costs (after graduation owing less than 80k), good faculty to student ratio, low living expenses, and 100% graduation rates (or close to it). Are there any of you that has attended an HBCU PT school, if so how was the program? What's the strengths and weaknesses of the program? How is the area around the school (is it a number of things to do)? How much did it cost you (tuition, living, etc)? Also can you recommend a living area near the school as well?

I really hope some can help me, I'm applying for schools this year 2016! Thank you in advance!

Hey there, not currently in pt school but will be attending.
Applied to UMES, they have a great tuition rate ( Under 40,000 I believe) and low cost of living. There is nothing to do in that area though, so if you're looking for a great night life, probably not the place for you lol... there are like one or two clubs and the ocean city area where all the kiddies go for beach week lol. But I've heard nothing but good things from the program, there is actually a girl who has a blog about her experience there (search "My Road to PT). Also, they had 100% first time pass rate for last years class and I believe their ultimate pass rate is also pretty good. You can live in the Salisbury , fruitland (cheapest) or Princess Anne area. (My best friend is from Salisbury so I know a little about the area lol)

I just got accepted into Hampton University. Tuition isn't that bad there either (I think about 50K, I expect to hopefully be no more than 80k in debt). Cost of living does not seem to bad if you shop around ( found a few places rent + utilities around $800 a month). Not sure about things to do, but it is by the beach. So far, things have seemed pretty organized but I can come back later with updates 🙂 They also have a 100% first time pass rate.

Howard is on probation and from what I've heard has been pretty unorganized sooooo yeah lol.

Wherever you go, try to apply early! I know Hampton and Howard have received a lot of applications (in the 800s). Umes is also very small and cheap so a lot of people try to go there for that. Just remember a lot of these classes only take around 25-30 people.!

Hope this helps 🙂

Thank you. At least now I know that Howard is off the list! As I've been hearing about them being at risk for losing their accreditation.

UMES is very cheap in-state, but I pay about 70k out of state for tuition. I'll definitely owe more than 80k after school from living expenses.

I know that there are some cheap schools in Texas, so maybe try there?
