good student

i WAS a great student . . . until i got to med school and realized i was going to spend the first two years paying $30K to wait for a bunch of art/english majors to catch up to my education until i can begin actually learning to be a doctor.

so, do i care about my scores? yes. am i a "good student"? not unless it matters . . .

MtMed I think you are officially the best student on earth, with your infinite knowledge as proof that you are far above the arts majors. ...

yeah, its a cheap shot. i don't really feel "above" anyone, 'cause i know they are educated in many other interesting and impressive ways; but i can't help sometimes getting annoyed at that fact. sometimes i i just get frustrated with the system of medical education these days. its not very efficient, but it just keeps getting more and more expensive.

sorry if i offended anyone. i'm sure i did; nothing personal.

It all evens out -- they are going to have to pay 30k during the latter two years to wait for a lot of the class to catch up in not being a science geeks and be able to actually talk to patients.

Don't hate the player, hate the game. You and ever other bio major (if thats what you were) made the decision to major in something that would be repeated throughout your first year of med school. Nothing wrong with that, of course, but there's no need to be bitter about it.

I don't know about you, but I slept through undergrad... as a bio major, i remember maybe 2% of what we've learned this year. Thank goodness they repeat or all those late night outs in undergrad would have ruined me!

This "art/english major" just got a perfect score on his bio final, scoring more than 2 SD above the mean. Apparently 98% of your bio major friends need to catch up to me. If you don't want me to be one of your peers some day, you could have gone PhD and avoided such a situation entirely.

Bull$hit tell me how the hell you learned all of what you learn in first 2 years before now...nowhere that's where. Even if you had a PhD in a hard science you wouldn't learn 10% of what you cover you would just be really specialized in some area of science, and you certainly don't learn jack in college. You're such an idiot.

We'll tell the nurses to expect you.

you're right. i'm a total *****.

Well, I am a English major and I dont know know how to talk to people either.I took English , coz I am dumb.
So,I will learn in the first 2 years, as Geeks wait for me, then I will learn two more years, as Smart speakers will wait for me.
True I will be 120K in debt, but I would have learned a lot.
Now that,is good news for me.Very good news!! 😀 :luck: 👍 😍

You could do a post-bac at some medical school taking the same classes as the medical students. I know some people that did that in my class and they were WAY ahead of the rest of us.

to be honest, i learned a lot in college; i studied out of enthusiasm and curiosity, not necessity. i have a degree in human performance, orthopedic assessment galor, a degree in biochemistry, teaching experience in biochem, exercise phys, environmental phys, neuroanatomy, membrane biophysics, and pharm. oh and a degree in philosophy. hmmm . . . a masters in clinical pharm . . . oh and a phd in molecular neuropharm . . .

i really don't mean any offense to liberal arts majors. i understand my rant was pretentious and arrogant, and i apologize for that. i don't hate the players . . . i guess i'm bored and tired and feel gyped on my tuition checks. c'est la vie . . . i'll get over it. but since we were asked what kind of students we were, i felt obliged to explain why i'm not as focused as i feel i should be.

again, sorry sounding for like a p**ck. and for what its worth, i went into medicine precisely because i prefer to communicate with patients, and use science as a tool to actually confer some benefit to my community.

Hi there,
I was a great student from undergraduate to graduate and through medical school. I started medical school dead even with everyone else in my class and helped some people and some folks helped me. In the end, we all got though and I have some of the best colleages on the planet.

Medical school is all about making sure that you and your colleagues get the best education that you can get. After all, one day you might have to refer your patients to one of your fellow classmates. I wanted to make sure that they knew as much as I did.

We had some wild times!

njbmd 😀

Dude - of COURSE you will be "waiting around" for people to catch up to you. Do you really expect people to start medical school with 3 undergrad degrees, one masters and a PhD? Geesh!

(oh, and while you are laughing about how little we know during the first two years, we will all be laughing at how many student loans you must have by now you indecisive little goof!)

Oh come off it. You didn't learn all the 2nd year material in ugrad. 1st year, with the exception of anatomy, is a little redundant for some. But 2nd year had plenty of novel info.

my goodness SDN is like being in a battlefield leave him/her alone geez. how many apologies does someone have to say to be forgiven. and if someone says they already know the material why spend your time proving they don't? you don't know them so none of u will ever know the truth. so how about you just answer the question whether or not you are a good student? you will be laughing at his/her student loans for the degrees...good one especially since he/she already complained about the loans ie you've brought up nothing new. some people didn't party throughout undergrad and some people actually made an effort to learn a lot so don't shoot them down now that it is paying off. to each his/her own. he/she already apologized for attacking non-science majors. so please save your words for your patients; words that, no doubt, your non-science major made you 2 years more qualified to say. i love you all so let's please just answer the post questions and save our PMS for posts titled please post if you have PMS and need to rant.

I seriously think he was joking and being sarcastic. No way he holds that many degrees. If so, and is just NOW just finally making his way into school, maybe he isn't that smart after all.

Since you have yet to take one class in medical school you certainly cannot claim that undergrad teaches you the material you cover there, even if you "made an effort to learn". As velo said maybe first year you could have had a brief coverage of the subjects in college but second year material is almost completely lacking coverage in colleges. When someone comes on here making ******ed a$$ claims about knowing it all before they got here they deserve such a response as was given. And wtf are you 5 years old emotionally talking about you love us all?

I am a non-science major (history/political science) with a law degree.

Mt. Med-- I understand your pain and I am sure that there are many people in my class who might agree. I have no delusions of grandeur-- only delusions of adequacy at this point. I will be shocked if I am above the bottom 25% of my class in ranking after the first two years.

Depending on the curriculum at you school, many non-science students are at a disadvantage never having taking anatomy, physio, histo, cell and molecular, developmental bio, immuno or micro or any of the other classes that bio and other science majors take. I really wish that some of these courses were required for admission so everyone can be on an even playing field. Nothing is more frustrating than having students who have taken anatomy (or fill in the blank class here) a ton of times. Of course, they like you are bored and are just waiting to get into third year. But on the flip side, I cannot tell you how many times I have heard "as you have seen this a thousand times before" from a professor.... Well, while this statement may apply to you, I never had any of these classes.

I can only pray that somehow the scales even out and that third year will be a vast improvement for those of us with finely honed communication skills.

Maybe (betwen top 30-35 % of the class). I haven't worked a lot during the first 2 years, except when I loved the subjects (neuro, nephro, cardio). Hopefully, I'll kick it into high gears during the clinical years, when it actually matters and become a great student. Hopefully...

I've been told I am by several, but refuse to believe it. Low self esteem, I guess 🙁

What class in medical school are you referring to as bio?
