Besides an acceptance:

1. Elite status on American Airlines - I'm GOLD (not that this really gets me anything, i just like feeling superior to 90% of all the other passengers) from all that flying

2. Missing school (can be fun at the beginning)

3. *your move*

3. Time off from work that my boss CAN'T complain about, (since my ability to get into school relates to his ability to get new fellows into the lab, and since my contract says I lose my job if I DON'T get in 🙄.)

4. Fast approaching free flight on Southwest. With them you actually DO get something.

Oh well besides the status I've raked in the miles - getting close to a free transatlantic trip (wooo!) - but yeah, status means nothing

You need to be Platinum or Executive to really start enjoying the benefits. I don't fly very much any more but when I was, I used to pay economy fares and almost always fly first or business.

Yeah, executive platinum get eVIPs and I bet those really come in handy for upgrading international trips - I guess I should've specified: gold means almost nothing

5. Meeting other applicants

6. Being taken out to dinner (i.e. the quasi-courtship feeling).

Ah yes - the warm feeling you get while momentarily thinking "they like me - they really like me if they're feeding me!"

oh and as for #5 - I am so psyched about UTSW second interview for no other reason than I get to hang out with a ton of people I've met along the way!

5. Meeting other applicants

I wasn't even thinking about this before the interview process, but now I think this was the best part of all. 😀 I've met some really cool and interesting people on the interview trail and I hope I'll get to be classmates with some of you.

Oh, and all the free food was nice, too. 🙂

You'll get to work on that going to conferences and such🙂

7. Free Liquor!!!

8. An excuse to buy new clothes

(I love my shopping!)

#5...QFT

9. Getting to stay for free in some posh hotels (where the poor, poor MD applicants have to pay), and also on some hard dorm room floors (*cough* Harvard *cough*).

10. People who are interviewing me giving great suggestions about things to do in my research, then telling them to my PI as if they were my idea

hahaha!

I agree with #5 all the way

Not realizing you have mono because you thought it was interview exhaustion...oh wait, that's not good, is it?

Oh no! You have mono? Yikes! You are still coming to Wisconsin right?

yes, I'm still coming.

(I'm fine, just tired)

Well that's good. I'm very much looking forward to meeting you! Did you see its going to be ridiculously cold? (3º for a high on saturday) 😱

I think I need to buy new clothes... I don't have anything for weather THAT cold!

Yeah I would really do that. Saturday its also going to be really windy (like 25 mph) so the wind chill will likely be -20. Frankly no one is actually prepared for that kind of weather but if you don't have one I would highly suggest a knee-length wool coat.

The feeling of relief you get when you are DONE with all of them!
