Good afternoon, dudes. I wasn't sure how I'd do in the match so I applied a little too broadly. Got invites from ~10 programs including my top three, have been formally rejected by 1 and haven't yet heard from another 29. So now I'm reviewing my list in ERAS and noticing how many programs I applied to that were cool, but not choice. I only applied to programs I would seriously consider going to. Even the "backup" programs were really places I thought sounded nice.

Is there any reason to withdraw from programs now, or should I wait to see who offers interviews and reconsider at the end of October?

You can always cancel interviews later, you can't un-withdraw an app.

That's what I was thinking. I know people tend to complain about interviewing, but I don't find it stressful and I love traveling, so I suppose keeping my options open also means I can interview at a few places I wouldn't otherwise visit. For instance, there's a few middle-tier programs in North and South Carolina I'm hoping to hear from that sound legit, and certainly are in great locations but I've never physically been. Too bad my finances are tight, or I'd visit all of 'em, I have a ton of time off for interview season!

I'm excited.

As an intern looking back, some of those interviews were annoying..but damn that dinner was free and that steak tasted good. Now I get scut work and can manage heapto-renal syndrome in my sleep. Enjoy 4th year. Go on as many interviews as you care to go to. Some places will surprise you. 2 of the top 3 than ended up on my rank list weren't on my radar when I submitted my application. You already paid to apply, why withdraw your ap?

Thanks, dude. You're right. I'll use it as an excuse to travel, and will be open-minded to each program.

Not only that, but you can use the less important interviews to rehearse for the really important ones.

The match is growing increasingly competitive. I know people who failed to match and plenty of people who matched lower on their lists than they initially expected to.

Personally, I would attend as many interviews as feasible and rank every program that would be more desirable than the SOAP.
