I recently got accepted into my #1 choice and am very grateful and excited. I will be leaving my job at the end of this year (was happening regardless of acceptance- my work with my lab is wrapping up) and was already in the midst of contemplating what to do after. Now that I have this A though, I am looking forward to a more relaxed six month "break" and am wondering if I could take a fun course at my local community college? I am thinking something like creative writing, or even an elementary level course of a new language.

The reason I ask if I "can" do this is because I am unsure if this is something that would affect my application (i.e. would I need to tell the medical school that I have enrolled at a new school? Or be obligated to let them know whatever grade I end up with?). Basically, is this something they NEED to know and could it possibly negatively affect anything like financial aid for med school? I am planning on paying for this class out of pocket, as it would not be expensive at all at my local CC.

If taking a class "for fun" seems like an extra way to spend my break, I apologize but it would be genuinely enjoyable, so I really am just trying to have a good time before next year! Thank you in advance.

Congratulations on your acceptance!

Taking a community college class will not hurt your application or impact your financial aid eligibility.

Many “continuing education” classes aren’t graded. They are also generally pretty cheap and are exempt from the AMCAS transcript requirement.

If it is a graded class, see if you can “audit” it, so that it can truly be for fun and low stress.
