Hi guys,
Every gpa section is 3.5. Do you think it's average? I heard from someone who are applying this cycle, too, but he said 3.5 was average and 3.8 was competative.
I just want to know where I am on..

The most recent average GPA for Dental school is 3.54 overall and same for Math & Science. The real average should be a little higher than that given the fact that there are two schools that strongly favor URM applicants and they have average GPAs of about 3.0. A 3.7 would be considered somewhat competitive.

Edit: no need for speculation. Here are the numbers for the past 3 years: http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=602216

In looking at the list of averages of the entering class of 2007, the average is about a 3.45-3.5, and DAT around AA19, so yes, I'd say a 3.5 would be competitive, and a 3.8 would be extremely competitive. Remember that these are averages, so an equal amount of people below that GPA as above that GPA get in (says the guy who got into 3 schools with a 3.01 sGPA 😉 ).

Average - it depends on how you are using that number in comparing the populations. It is around the average GPA if you are looking at the people accepted to d-school. Competative if you look at the overall GPA average of ALL applicants.
