GPA and MCAT cut-offs for schools

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
requirements are in the MSAR. the GPA cut off and stuff i have no idea although if you are not around the average i doubt you should apply to it without considering it a reach other than that...med schools like diversity and your GPA and MCAT aren't the only ways of evaluating you

Where are you guys finding the GPA and MCAT requirements for each medical school? Is there a place where you can find GPA and MCAT cut-offs as well?

Very few schools have explicit cut-offs, and the applicant is considered as a whole, not just numerically. However there are published averages, and can be found in MSAR, USNews and on various individual school websites. You can also look on MDApplicants.com but some of that info is suspect. Some schools reduce the number of applications they look at by doing initial screens, eg. eliminating all applications with below a 3.0 from consideration. There are certainly stats below which it is a waste of money to apply to allo med school. (eg. a B- GPA and a 26ish MCAT would give you very poor odds). But you won't find many or any explicit cut off numbers, I don't think.

This matches my experience. Many schools will filter or screen out applicants with critically low GPAs or MCAT scores (ugrad GPA < 3.0 is the big one). As much as you are below one average on one of these metrics, you have to be that much above the average on the other. But there are limits min-maxing things because there are so many qualified applicants that schools don't need much of a reason to reject you.

Once you make that cut, then the other facets of your app (ECs, research, etc,) come into play.
