Hello All,

Would the no: of attempts made to pass a subject affect the GPA directly? Can anyone please provide me suggestions on GPA conversions for the below two percentages scored:

61% and 56% for a BDS graduate from India.......

Thanks!!!

I dont know exactly how it is done... but here goes:
120 and above - A
110 to 119 - B
105 to 109 - C
100 to 104 - D

Below 100 is F ... this is for pass grade of 100 !! and by ECE !!

I dont know how far this is true, but I deduced it from my report and a couple of my friends' ... hope this helps!!!

Even I agree to g3k as far as grades are concerned, but to numberise it in Grade Average what method they use is not clear.

I guess 61% will get 2.9 to 3.3 somewhere & 56% will from 2.5 to 3.1. [depending upon the no. of attempts I guess].

Lets everyone share their knowledge so that forum gets a more clear guess!!

yes, the number of attempts will affect the GPA even if you produce a consolidated mark sheet. because they keep track of the time difference between the exams appeared. moreover you are also expected to produce a syllabus and curriculum followed by your university. that will definitely expose if you have been attempting your exams regularly. if you had not appeared for an exam then you should show a proof of absence in the first mark sheet. in that case, absence will not affect your GPA.

and as for percentage,

it is not fixed. say if you get 63% in a class of 100 and the highest mark is 65% then you have a bright chance of getting a higher GPA. hence if you can produce additional documents signed by the dean of you college stating your rank position in your batch they will award a higher GPA.

i think you cannot dorectly relate your GPA to the over al percentage, GPA is calculated, individually subject to subject and that is averaged t get the fibal GPA, so if you have got for example 60 in all subjects and a total of 600 you will get a better GPA than, you get 50 in most subjects and 90 in one subject getting a total of same 600. i hope you got the message, the methods of calculation also differ from ECE, WES, others. so dont really worry about it as the most important thing is NBDE part 1 so best of luck with the exam ,

Hi!
As India & Pakistan uses pass /fail system based on annual exams.Besides no course weight/credits are defined for subjects. What they do , they estimate credit hours for each subjects, then they calculate GPA by marks earned on letter score like A=4.0, A-=3.67.
We can help you to calculate your GPA ,even without going to ECE.Go to www.laurasmidiheaven.com/tools/gpacaculator.
To calculate credit hours you should tell about your university, someone from your university must had courses done by ECE,he/she can post credit hours.Next is to see your marks get letter points ,put it in the equation ,you will get the GPA.I can post my credit hours but Pakistani universities have diffirent course weightage.
Hope it will be of value to you.
