Hi out there -
I am a career changer, aged 33. I ran my own company (a small design/build residential remodeling and building co) and before that I worked as an admissions advisor for exchange students. I am now interested in medicine for a variety of reasons, and I've deemed the reasons sound after ruminating on this for some time!
So, here is my dilemma: I screwed around a bit to much in college, getting only a 3.0, with a relatively easy German Studies Major. I did however do well in my science and math, scoring a 98% in calculus, doing well in physics and logic. My keen math tells me there is no way to get up to a 3.5 with only 2 years of premed. Big deal or not? I have no question about being capable of doing well in school as I have when set to the task. I also believe that I will score well on the MCAT. I am so set on going for my MD now, that I just can't take no for an answer. There's no question in my mind that this is the direction I should be headed.
Also, an ancillary question is - Anyone have experience with Portland State University for Pre-Med? I've heard mixed reviews. I like the fact that I can stay in Portland and the proximity to OHSU.
Thanks all... and please be careful about bursting my bubble 😉
