Hey everybody,
I graduated in mechanical engineering with a somewhat below average g.p.a. But I recently heard that engineers get from .2 to .4 bump in comparison to biology majors. Is this true or just a myth? Is it different for all schools? If so does anyone know schools that definitely take this into consideration?

Some individual adcom members when recommending applicants for interview will give a little boost to engineers because it is well known that the coursework that is taken by engineering majors is often a bear.

myth.... you're supposed to excel in any major that you pick. There will be no "bump", but depending on the person they might look at it more favorably.

i can not stand when my fellow engineering students tell me that the strongest part of my application is the fact that i'm an engineer. if i get into medical school, i sure as hell hope it's because of who i am and what i've done, not what classes i took.

and p.s. it's a myth. LizzyM hit the nail right on the head. i don't think there's an actual numbers boost but there's a "lets cut the kid a little slack" sometimes.
