GPA calculations

I am currently taking post bac sciences and trying to increase my GPA. I have seen conflicting views on how GPA is calculated concerning repeated courses. Some say it is most recent grade, some say it is both. I am getting all As in my current coursework, but I have two Ds from 1990 in Marketing and History. If I retake them and only the last counts it will boost my gpa .1. Can someone clarify the policy for TMDSAS and AMCAS.

If you are applying to allopathic (MD) schools, repeated courses are averaged. If you are applying to osteopathic schools (DO) the most current (NOT the highest of the two grades) grade will be counted only.

i cant imagine why allopathic schools would want to cosider the grades of something 16 years ago.
