Hey everyone,

I recently interviewed at MUSC, and during my second one on one interview, the adcom said, "hmm....looks like your GPA with our conversions is a 3.7....very nice.....and you have a 19/18 on the DAT....thats a good score..."
OK, heres the problem. I have a 3.2 GPA, which to me, seems difficult to be converted to a 3.7! I do actually have a 19/18.....so...Im confused about whether MUSC somehow screwed up my GPA (in my favor), or maybe it did conver that high, or whether he was testing me to see what I would say?
I kinda was like nodding my head, and said "yup...."

What do yall think?

much love,
jake

Wow, if MUSC is your first choice, which I am betting it is from your screen name, that is a really hard question. I guess the more important one now is What can you do about it if they did mess it up on accident? Would you call and ask the admissions office and ak for the GPA on your file? I think that's what I would do first. Check and see from them and maybe they will clarify what their conversions are. I dont think it was a test in the interview cause from my experience the interviewers are not trying to trick you they are all pretty straightforward. Maybe MUSC has some kind of weird conversion, and maybe I should have applied there. Good luck.

MUSC converts grades based on the Princeton Review ratings guide. Most good undergraduate colleges will get you a .5 addition, while very hard/good college might get you up to a .7 addition. There is no addition for tech schools, and the remander of schools recieve about a .3 addition. Hope this helps.

Do you know of any other schools that use this or a similar conversion? Although I'm sure the level of grade inflation at one's school is taken into consideration, I wasn't aware that there was a mathematical system to it; I just assumed individual adcom members made a mental note. Does anyone know how this works across the board?

really? because i would like to think that UC Berkeley is a very competitive school to get a high gpa. (i got to berkeley) so i should get ~.5-.7 gpa added?

is that what really happens?
