How important is a GPA upswing?

For example: Student A has a sGPA of 3.85 but a 3.75 since freshman year
Student B has a sGPA of 3.85 but a 3.95 since freshman year

How much of an advantage does Student B have? Do some admissions departments look at a post-freshman GPA just as much (or more) than the student's actual GPA?

Thanks Guys!

I've heard upward trends are good. Then again, you are talking about three separate GPAs all in the A range. This hypothetical students should probably keep doing their best and stop over analyzing the process.

I agree that the differences in the GPAs provided are not relevant.

I've read there are a few med schools that only look at post-freshman grades. Which ones they are you'd have to ferret out from past posts on sdn.
