Hello guys; today we got our report cards. I looked at my over all GPA and it says
Graduation GPA: 3.9333
Cumulative GPA: 3.9412

At first (Last year) I thought the two GPA's was different because I took one honors class last year. As my friends and I were comparing our report cards I noticed other report card's Graduation and Cumulative GPA was exactly the same. (Even if they took Honors/AP classes their freshman year)

Can Someone explain the difference between both types of GPA's?
Why is mine might be slightly different?

Confusion Part 2.
Something else I noticed, I have 8.5 credits. Some people have more some less.
Except we're suppose to have avg. of 7 credits if we passed all our classes last year. I know why I last year I earned 7.5 credits because one of my elective teachers gave all his students 1.5 instead of 1.0 credits as a going away present.

My assumption is that I have an extra credit from 8th grade year when I took Alg. 1 ( I was home/virtual schooled 5-8th grade). Even though I earned an "A" in the course, they gave it to me again in 9th grade, I didn't bother having it changed because I felt it would be a nice refreshment, "what could it hurt?"
A course which I also passed with an "A" and passed the end of course exam given by the state.

My question is could they have possibility given me two credits for same course? would have count as 2 math credits or what?

Thanks if your still with me this far into my ramble of a thread! Double thanks if you can actually give me some helpful information on this topic 😍

First of all, a 0.01 difference in your GPA isn't really going to have any impact on you. For all intensive purposes, you have a 3.9 GPA. Now, I'm just going on what my high school does. Advanced classes, such as AP's and honors, can receive a higher GPA than someone who doesn't since the classes are more difficult. For example, my GPA currently stands around 4.2 since I have two AP classes. So, I'm guessing that you may have taken a few advanced classes, and therefore your cumulative GPA would be higher than what your GPA would be without taking into considering class difficulty.

Hope that helps!

You mean "for all intents and purposes". Change that before you get a grammar beat down in college.😎

I've always thought that it was "intensive." Hearing it a second time, though, "intents and purposes" makes a lot more sense. Oh well.

Thanks Anti for your reply.
Although I know a 0.01 isn't going to greatly impact me; that wasn't my point. I'm curious to why one is different from the other. what's the factor to make my cumulative slightly higher than my graduation?

As stated before, I also thought it was a boost for taking that one honors class my freshman year, except like said before other's report cards has the exact GPA for their cumulative and graduation. They've taken a mixture of honors/AP classes and regular classes. So unfortunately it can't possibly be that. 🙁

All help is much appreciated!!

Glanced over that when I read it. Sorry 'bout that. Maybe it could be that your graduation GPA is your senior year GPA while the cumulative GPA is what you have throughout your high school career?

I'm just bustin your balls AntiHouse. Anyway, to the OP...There is absolutely no way for anyone on here to determine what your specific school did there with your GPA. If you're that curious, ask them. Otherwise, just send out those transcripts and let the college acceptances roll in.

Thanks for the replies in trying to help with my issue 🙂
@Anti
I never really considered that, it's a possibility.

@David the Bruce
I have asked and I'm still confused which is why I'm here.
For clarification, my question isn't pertaining my specific GPA; my school isn't the only one who gives you graduation and cumulative. I just want to know whats the definition or grading scale or any information about the two types of GPA's.

P.S Still looking for answers to Part 2!
Could it be possible to get two credits for same course? (took them different year, and different location/teachers)

u mad bro?

let me preface this by saying it would be much easier to ask your school, rather than people on the internet, unfamiliar with your schools style of grading/credits.

I am homeschooled, but also take classes at a local high school. I also recieve credit from that public high schoold for volunteering at the hospital. The amount of credit I recieve is negligible. my question is, does your high school give credit for EC's? In regard to the credit issue, my brit. lit. course had a half semester long project we could do for an extra half english credit. have you done anything of that sort?
